IIs there a monthly fee like Quicken has started?

The cost of a Moneydance license is a one-time charge. The makers of Moneydance do not sunset the program or force upgrades. e.g. I still use MD 2011.
If I may make a suggestion, download the free trial version of Moneydance to see if it suits your needs. You can d/l it here:

I downloaded the program. The best use for me is online sync to my bank accounts. I cannot seem to get that done. I would like to test the program.

We have detailed instructions on setting up direct connections or manually downloading transactions from your bank at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay. The trial version is fully functional, which will allow you to test things like this before purchasing.
