Questions on migrating from Mac OS to Ubuntu

Good Evening

I am in the process of migrating from a Macbook pro to Ubuntu. I have been using MoneyDance on my Macbook for years and just love the app. I downloaded an evaluation copy yesterday to see if it will do what I need and if the data will migrate seamlessly. it would not import the .md file from the version on my Mac but was able to import an xml format file created on the Mac.

I have some questions on the this version:
- First is can the file be accessed on a cloud drive from the Mac and the Ubuntu PC? I may use the Mac from time to time. Since the version will not be the same, I am not sure if that will work. I will be saving the file before opening it on the other.
- Second can I get a license for a Microsoft PC and Ubuntu? Is there a discount for 2 in the same family? My wife uses Microsoft, so that will allow her to do things also if we can use both to a cloud drive like in question 1.
- Third, can accounts that are no longer active be hidden like in the old version.? I do not see that option in this evaluation copy.
- Fourth, Are there other features that are not in the evaluation copy?

The current copy is licensed but I cannot find the license number or the version number I am using on my Mac. It would be registered either with the email address of [email blocked] or [email blocked]. I am no longer using the id.

Please let me know what is possible and let me know what further information you need to answer these questions.

I am not support staff, just a user.

Let’s take this one step at a time. You should start by loading the same version of Moneydance as you have already been using as file formats have changed. This should allow you to open your data set with the extension “.md”. older versions can be found at.
Once you can open your data set if you want you can upgrade your version see
A small number of people have had issues with upgrading if they are skipping versions and found that upgrading one version at a time works better for them. Always take a backup first and store in a safe location.
    for licence information see
Assuming you upgrade to 2017 you should not store your data set in the cloud. To sync data between devices, see
You must use the same version and build on all your computers!
Before you enter a valid key licence into a downloaded copy of Moneydance the only limitation is a maximum of 100 manually entered transactions. All other features are the same.
In 2017 you can make unused accounts inactive and hide them.
    For general information see
The licence number and version/build number should be under HELP – ABOUT MONEYDANCE.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Rick,

The previous post gave great advice. The only thing I would add is about your question about licenses. For non-business use, our licensing policy allows you to install the version of Moneydance you have purchased on as many computers as you need in your household, regardless of operating system. Simply reuse the same license key on all of your household computers.
