I found this comment under upgrading:
Moneydance 2015 and 2017 use a new file format.
My question is : Does Moneydance 2015 and 2017 use the same file format.
I'm looking at upgrading again.
Currently running 2015 on Slackware 14.2 .
Would be nice to be able to switch back to 2015 if something goes sideways.

The basic file format is the same as far as I know, some things like syncing and themes will not be backward compatible since they did not exist in 2015.

I did the upgrade and everything went Great.
I installed 2017 in a different folder /opt r and still had 2015 in /home/user so I was able to run either one on the same data.
