Anyone having the same problem?
Thanks,

I am not support staff, just a user.

“Slow” is relative. For example for me on my windows PC moneydance opens within 3 second and on closing the backup message completes within 8 seconds. One known issue which can extend the opening time is if you have the extension “Moneydance Updater” installed. If this extension is installed, try uninstalling it.

It could help support if you state your operating system and version and build of moneydance you are running.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

We have been made aware of an problem with the Updater extension that is causing slow behaviour on start up for some customers. Do you have this extension installed? You can check this within Moneydance by navigating to the Extensions menu. If you have the Updater extension installed, can you try removing this to see if this speeds things up? You can remove the extension by navigating to Extensions --> Manage extensions.

If this is the cause of the issue, our lead developer is aware of this and he will be looking into this and making a change that will stop the strange behaviour.

If this doesn't explain the delay you are encountering on start up, please let me know and we can investigate further.

    Ian,
Your instruction on deleting the Updater Extension, worked a little better.
I still feel as you expressed, there is still a glitch in the update.
    Thanks,

Hi, I have very slow start up of MD2017.4 and shutdown. I put this down to the fact that my data is on a NAS and my backup on a USB disk attached to the NAS. My PC is Windows 10 64 Pro, fully up to date, with 512GB SSD boot drive, 16GB RAM, i5 Haswell processor.

Start up is 35sec without the update checker, and backup is 45 sec...

I would expect locating your data files on a NAS device would slow Moneydance. Moneydance does a lot of I/O and often with small files as it uses small transaction log files to record changes and new data - this is to facilitate replication between systems.

Such files are generally not overly network friendly and neither is a lot of small data I/O traffic.

As far as backups that would take longer as files are being read from the NAS and then written back to the NAS as the backup archive is being created, moneydance is not doing any staging to your local hard disk during any operation, it writes directly to the destination.

I understand the security aspect, which is good.
After deleting the "Updater Extension" as instructed.
MD opens in 14 seconds and closes in 24 seconds.
I have a copy or Quicken 2007 for Mac running the same data and
it opens in 2 seconds and closes in 3 seconds.
    Quite a difference.
    Thanks All,
