new Certificate Chain error - BECU
Hi - my online banking stopped working for one of my banks - Boeing Employee Credit Union. Now I get this:
"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server.
Error Description: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server Certificate Chain"
I tried disabling the online connection, and recreating a new one, but that didn't work.
I'm using Moneydance 2010r3(751)

Superslacker,
We've heard of other Moneydance users who are having issues with BECU, and our direct connection specialist is working on it. We're looking into the issue, and it would be helpful for us to know what OS you are running, as well as your version of Moneydance and Java? (Look in Help -> About Moneydance).
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope to have this issue diagnosed soon.

Hi all,
We do know about the problem and are working on the issue. It would be incredibly helpful to get console information to diagnose this issue. If you would be willing, could you send me the contents of your error console? Here's how to get the log in Moneydance 2010:
1) In Moneydance, click on the Help menu and select the Console Window option. This will open the console messages window.
2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and email the file to ***@moneydance.com with the subject line "BECU error"
The debugging logs that this produces will contain your account information. Jessica will hold your information securely, so the info won't be broadcast to the world, but just to be safe you should redact any account info in the debug logs. Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it should be fine.
Thank you for your help with this,
Angie Rauscher

Support Staff 9 Posted by Jessica Little on 20 Nov, 2010 04:26 PM
Hi all,
We have a fix, but unfortunately we're having a little trouble with our update system and therefore have been unable to release out a new build yet. I hope to have things worked out in a few days. I'll update when it's released.
Sorry for the delay and inconvenience!

Hi all,
First, I'm very sorry for our delay in fixing this! However, we now have a build out that should allow you to connect again. You can download the updated moneydance.jar file that you need at: http://moneydance.com/download/2010/Upgrade/newcert/moneydance.jar
Here are instructions on how to install this file. This should work on all platforms:
1) Go to whatever directory you have Moneydance installed in. There should be a file named "moneydance.jar". Rename that file to something else, like "moneydance.jar.original".
2) Copy the file you downloaded into your install directory.
3) You should now be able to connect to BECU
Again, I'm very sorry on the delay in fixing this. Please let me know if you have any trouble installing this file or connecting after you've updated.

The new jar file resolved the problem downloading checking and savings data but I am still unable to download credit card data from BECU.

Hi Steve,
Sorry, I forgot Macs store applications differently. Here are instructions for Mac users:
1) Open your Applications folder in Finder.
2) In applications, right-click (or command-click) on the Moneydance applications. In the menu that pops up, choose "Show Package Contents"
3) In the package contents folder, go to the /Contents/Resources/Java folder.
4) There should be a file named "moneydance.jar". Rename that file to something else, like "moneydance.jar.original".
5) Copy the file you downloaded into your install directory.
6) You should now be able to connect to your bank.

I am trying to set up a new connection to BECU. I just saw this string and tried to do all you described....but, I still get the same javax error message described above. Please help!

Hi Joan,
Can you describe in more detail what you've tried? If you've replaced the jar file, it should work now. You may need to restart your computer.

I downloaded the Moneydance zip file. After I extracted all the files I looked and looked and could not find the .jar file I am supposed to replace. I did try to put all the extracted files in the moneydance folder and rename the original .jar file, but nothing worked. I uninstalled everything then started again. I just don't know where the .jar file is. Sorry for the ignorant question.

Thanks! That worked for me -
BTW The Path for the jar file I had (Mac OSX)
In Application show package contents for Moneydance then it is:
Moneydance -> Contents -> Resources -> Java -> Moneydance.jar

When I open the download file I have three choices:
Virtually every file is .class
?

You don't need to open the downloaded jar file - just replace the jar file you already have with it.

Hi Joan,
Rename the moneydance.zip file to moneydance.jar then do the file replacement.

Today I am having the same exact issue with Oppenheimer. Is there a similar or broader fix? I am currently installing
Downloading Update for Root Certificates [October 2010] (KB931125)
(among some other updates). With the BECU fix (for which I replaced my .jar file) was the error simply misleading, or was it related in fact to the certificate chain? I know some businesses have trouble installing enhanced certificates properly on their servers.
Thanks.

Note, too, this is not a connection I had previously set up. This error occurs when I attempt to add a "New Connection" and I select "Oppenheimer & Co. Inc."
Also, Moneydance 2010r3 (751)
Java Version: 1.6.0_22
I can send Console Output if desired. No hurry for me--I don't conduct transactions frequently enough to be overly burdened here, but it would be a nice fix.
Happy Holidays by the way!

It looks like there's a different error with some banks. We're working on a fix, and hope to have one out shortly after Christmas.

I've very sorry for the delay, but we now have a build available with the updated certificates. You can download the update for your platform from our website at: http://moneydance.com/preview/755/
Installing build 755 should allow you to connect. Please let me know if you have any trouble updating or connecting after you've updated.
