MD 2011r2 hangs
Hi - I'm not sure whether this is a bug or just the effect of my old iMac (PowerPC G5, running OS X 10.5.8), but I upgraded to 2011r2 the other day and have never had this problem before. (I searched the forum and didn't find it, either.) MD starts out fine, but after entering several transactions (this time, 12), it slows to the point that I think it has frozen. It has, but not so that I have to force quit and restart - I just have to wait longer. I discovered that it seems like I can get it going again by clicking anywhere outside the MD window.
So is this a bug, or do I need to put up with it until I get a new iMac?

Here are some things to try:

Thanks - I haven't had either of those features on.

Do you have a particularly large .md data file? If so how large?
Are you entering investment transactions or regular transactions?
What extensions do you have installed?

As data files go, I think it's pretty small - it's just my checking account since 2008, and I don't have tons of transactions each month. How do I check my file size?
It's my checking account - so, regular transactions.
I don't have any extensions installed.
I've discovered that simply moving the cursor around usually gets it going again - I don't even have to click outside the main window.

Do you have the option under Moneydance->Preferences->Network "Automatically download in background enabled"?
Can you select Help->Console Window and copy and paste the output from there to this discussion.

No.
Can you select Help->Console Window and copy and paste the output from there to this discussion.

Are many of your transactions marked as unconfirmed? Which is to say do they still have a blue dot on them?

Hi! Sorry about the long silence.
No - no blue dots.
I noticed that, although I imported completed, reconciled transactions from
Quicken (dating to 2008), they don't show as reconciled.
Working in MD again tonight, the same thing happened. I closed out and
re-launched, and it performed nicely long enough for me to finish what I
wanted to do.

Jon Hoover is working with me on the same problem. Takes about 1/2 hour before it slows up. He said it's a known/rare bug that shows up with older systems. Ours is a G5 running 10.4.11. I suspect that it has something to do with Java. On the ohe older machines apple stopped updating Java at 1.5.... The newer Intel machine are running Java 1.6. Jon says they haven't got a direct patch for it yet.
Jon:
This is I think a rare but known bug which can happen on older versions of OSX, which unfortunately we don't currently have a direct fix for.
It involves on your homepage window what the account listing having too many items. This is usually the investment accounts. If you go to the home page and look at the list of investment accounts or any other account types, are there any which have many items listed? If so you may need to stop displaying that type, which I can give instructions for how to do.

Hi Lerissa,
Has this problem persisted? One thing that may help, that we are asking the user who posted above to try is the following:
Do you have on your Home Page many accounts, especially securities listed?
If you go to Moneydance -> Preferences, Home Page tab, and remove some of the panels does that improve the issue any?
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

I just did that about an hour ago. She isn't using Moneydance this afternoon so we'll test it later. We've got it trimmed down to :
Bank Accounts
Assets
Liabilities
Net Worth
Memorized Graphs
Hopefully this helps.
Thanks.
