ghost display with new investment transactions
Using linux (MEPIS 11/debian/KDE) and MD v801.
Not sure if I noticed this before version 801 or not, but for all new transactions in investment accounts there is a ghost value in the shares entry. See attached screenshots. It doesn't go away while entering the transaction, but does go away once you hit enter.
Editing an existing transaction also gives a ghost value with the same behavior.
The actual ghost value will be the same over several different investment accounts, but it does change sometimes - haven't figured out what makes it change. One sample I attached the value has a leading "carrot".
Cheers

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem you are describing. What action is set on the transactions shown in the screenshots? Are you relaibly able to reproduce the problem? If so what are the steps?

I don't have time at the moment to fully figure it out, but I can reliably reproduce it everytime time I open MD. It seems there has to be several transactions entered (typically "buy") and maybe an edit before that ghost will appear in the shares. I also maybe moved between investment accounts.
Something else: I didn't notice before that there is also a ghost "USD" in the amount block. see newly attached screenshot.
That reliably happens everytime I've started a new transaction (any action).

I've noticed the same thing. I thought it was supposed to be some sort of reminder or guide since the "ghost" displays are kind of relevant - for example in a random transaction I entered just now the ghost displays include a "USD" in the amount field, the word "fee" in the fee field, "transfer" in the transfer field, etc. However, it also makes it pretty hard to read what you're typing since the ghost and typed characters seem to be "OR"ed together, and you see both. Edit: Actually I just looked again and in most of the fields the ghost display goes away when you activate the field for an entry. In the fields where you enter amounts this does not happen. This isn't noticeable in the fee and amount fields as the ghost is left-justified and the entered amount is right-justified. In the share field, the ghost display shows the security, it occupies the whole field, and as I mentioned, you see both at once so it's really hard to see the amount of shares being typed in. This can be pretty annoying.
I'm using Linux Mint 9 and I've seen this in builds well before 801.

Hi Folks,
What version of Java are you running? If you go to Help -> About Moneydance it should say. We haven't been able to recreate this yet but maybe this will give us a clue.
Thanks.

My java version in the "About Moneydance" says: Java Version: 1.6.0_21
From the console- "java -version" yields:
java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode)

Hi,
Could you all try uploading to Java 1.60_29 and see if this addresses things: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Thanks.

Hi,
Unfortunately I cannot offer any further ideas at this time. I've created a bug ticket for this item, we will try and collect more instances of this and get it so that it will be reproducable on one of our programmers computers and they can then start trying to solve it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support
