Discover Card - Downloaded Transactions reappearing

I was previously having problems with Discover card not connecting as mentioned in a previous post, but that got resolved with build 640. Now I am having another problem.

I have 3 transactions for this months Discover Card activity, occuring since the last statement period. I have downloaded these and accepted them into my register. When I download transactions again, they reappear in the incoming window. At that time, the only two options I am offered is Repeat Payee or No Match (it doesn't find them in the register)

I have tried:

  1. Deleting the 3 transactions in the Moneydance register and accepting them from incoming transactions again

  2. Deleting them from the incoming transactions window

  3. Accepting them and then using the reconcile function to remove the duplicates

  4. Examing the transaction details for both the register and incoming versions of the transactions. There doesn't seem to be much difference, except for the transaction id and date entered (I assume that got changed by Moneydance because it didn't find a match)

In all cases they keep reappearing.

This is only happening with Discover Card, I have other credit card and bank accounts and they are downloading fine.

Is their a known problem with this? Is anyone else having this problem?

I actually have not seen that for a while--it only happened once after I
purchased the upgrade to build 791.

    Hey all,

We don't currently have any other news, but we are still working on this. I'm sorry it's taking so long, and we're still hopeful we can resolve the issue, but I don't have a timeline for the next solution for testing. We will absolutely post here when we have any info, so you'll all automatically be notified.

    Hi All,

If you are interested, here is a different way of downloading Discover card transactions that is not as easy, but should get rid of some problems. If you
go to Discover and download txn's for a date range, you can use this newer csv file importer to import your file. It gives you control by simply picking your own date range that does not overlap what you know you have. Hope that helps.

new version of a cvs file importer extension with enhancements

get the newest version of the importer at the bottom of the thread. (if you look at Discover picture of settings, change ; to , oops).

I have just noticed that Discover direct access download transaction duplication appears to differ in my 792 Mac version of MD vs my 798 win version.

I have only noticed it on two consecutive downloads, once last night on win and then this morning on mac where there were no new transactions, but the mac did not duplicate where the windows version did.

I will watch more closely in the future to see if there is a repeatable pattern and report.

BTW, looking for a preview update of 792 mac does not return a new version available whereas that was how I got the 798 win version. I had to go to the "daily installers" page to get the 798 mac version.

UPDATE - The 798 mac version did not duplicate the previous (5 minutes ago) transactions that I had reconciled - only the single one I had deleted (because it was one of those zero amount ones that I see paired to many expected/actual ones). Maybe 798 has made an advance on the problem.

v798 Windows version is still producing duplicates for me.
No idea what triggers it, it's not necessarily occurring around my statement date as the duplicate transaction is on 9/18/2011, and my last statement ended 9/9/2011 and there are 7 other transactions between those dates that did not duplicate.

Still annoying, and I'm also still happy to furnish whatever data/help/logs/tests I can to fix this problem; all you have to do is ask.

    Hi Everyone,

So, we think we may have finally squashed this bug! Could you please download and install the current daily build to test out the fix? You can get version 799 from our website at: http://moneydance.com/tmp/daily/installers/

Hmm... still getting duplicates. Here's how I tested:
    1) Opened an archive file (from a couple days ago) in the previous v798 to see that a duplicate would be produced, and it was (LOWES transaction in attached screenshots).
    2) Closed my file without saving.
    3) Updated the moneydance .jar file to v799. (download and replace .jar file from Index of /tmp/daily/installers/799/Upgrade)
    4) Repeated step 1 with new MD version, and got the same resuilts: the LOWES transaction was duplicated.

    Hi mechgt,

On one image you say the same price is a 'coincidence'. Do you mean you made 2 purchases on the same day with the same price, or is the one with the blank 'memo' the duplicate you do not want?

Would you mind testing this for me? Could you download your Discover transactions for say all of September, and use the mdcvsimporter extension to import with and see if you do not get duplicates? It is simple to create a Discover reader config. If you did 2 purchases at the same price and date, that would still create a dup though. It will tell you how many transactions it processed and how many it added and how many dup's it skipped. If this works I think it would help MD with their online matching too.

P.S. it prints some debug info. If you have tons of records and it is too slow, let me know.

    Thanks,

    mechgt,

P.P.S. I would not save after you use mdcsvimporter at this time unless you want to keep doing it that way as it will probably keep future MD online matching from working because they match differently I am assuming.

The first download you do after the update won't quite get rid of all duplicates, but subsequent downloads should. If you delete the duplicate and download again, does it show up again?

    mechgt,

My mistake, my importer matching would not handle, at this point, the case where the date, desc, and amount are the same for 2 actually different transactions. I got that right. But what it would do is consider them duplicates and skip one. I got that backwards.

@Stan: I knew as soon as I posted that, it'd be confusing, sorry. The LOWES transaction is not correct, it's a duplicate. I did NOT do 2 purchases at LOWES on the same day. If you look, there's a KROGER and FRONTERA transaction with the same price which is a coincidence. Just ignore the comment in the pic, and sorry for confusion.

I can try to look at the .csv importer when I get a moment. Generally speaking, I have no interest in using a csv importer to download Discover (as a long term solution), but if it's valuable to the MD team for troubleshooting, I can investigate and post results.

@Jessica: First download won't work: Ok, no problem, I can understand that. This sounds like something I'll have to wait and report back on later then. As it's always stood (in older versions), immediate re-downloads will not produce duplicates, so I don't feel I can give it a valid test immediately. I'll give it a week or two, and report back.

You can get it from here:

    http://code.google.com/p/mdcsvimporter/issues/detail?id=10

    PREBETA 15.1

I changed the matching method which is saved to FiTxnId.
I now do duplicate matching against current transactions so
you can import more than once and hopefully it will not insert duplicate transactions.

I just did two (Discover) downloads separated by about 2 hours and using 799 for mac. I did get two duplicates on the first along with two new transactions. I deleted the duplicates and reconciled the account (the two new transactions were accepted). The second download did not give any duplicates.

I will down a few more downloads over the next few days and report. Build 798 took a couple days to show duplicates after not showing them for a few downloads.

I've been running v799 for a few weeks now, and have not gotten any duplicates in my Discover account. It sure looks to be fixed now :)

Me too. No duplicates so far since my 9/27/11 post. This includes 799 on Windows.

Everyone, when you first updated to that preview version, did you get
duplicates for a while before they stopped? I just updated to 801 last
night, did a Discover sync, and still got dupes.

When I went to version 799 I think I got duplicates the first day then NONE after that. 801 seems to be working great too.
