New strange behavior since Mac Java update

I have an intel-based iMac running OSX v 10.6.4. I just got the last OSX software update pushed out from Apple last Friday (Oct 22), and the only thing in it was a Java version update. Ever since the update, the scroll button on my apple mouse no longer works with the pop-up menus in Moneydance. Before the update, I could use the rolling scroll button to scroll up and down within the pop-up menus (e.g., in the "Categories" menu when entering a transaction manually). After the update, the menu disappears the instant I touch the scroll button. I can still use the menu's displayed scroll bar to move up and down, but touching the scroll button now is instant menu-death.

I'm running Build 751 and my Java version is 1.6.0_22

I saw Sean's blog note about Apple's new Java policy. I don't know if this is related or not. It is annoying, because I've gotten used to using the scroll button for other things, and it's a hard habit to unlearn. I do enter the bulk of my transactions manually, btw.

Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi ds4854
This issue apparently is not just a Mac issue. I've noticed the same behavior in Windows.
The current work-around is to position the cursor over the scroll bar of the drop down list and then you can use the scroll wheel.
I hate it when I upgrade something (Java) and it breaks a feature that I really like and always use.

Edit: This issue also exists in the following environments:

    Moneydance 2010r3 (752)
    OS: Windows Vista 6.0 x86
    Java: 1.6.0_22 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)

    Moneydance 2010r3 (752)
    OS: Windows XP 5.1 x86
    Java: 1.6.0_22 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)

I have noticed this problem also on my Win7 enterprise machine.

I believe I also had no-scroll wheel operation on many of the MD windows in previous versions of MD and Java on the Mac.

    Hey everyone,

I've created a ticket for this bug in our bug tracking system. It seems like something changed in the recent Java update that broke this pop-up in Moneydance. On my computer, this works fine if I'm using Java 1.6.0_18 but is broken using Java 1.6.0_22. For those who are able to (Linux and Windows users), downgrading to Java 1.6..0_18 should take care of this until we're able to release a fix. Unfortunately, I don't think Mac users can downgrade. :-(

Sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully we can have this fixed soon.

    Hi Jessica,
Drop down lists working again after Java downgrade to 1.6.0_18.
    Thanks,
    -Kevin N.

For OS X, there is a Java preferences function in the Java application folder that allows you to select the version of (installed) operation you want to use; a list selector if I remember.

Don't have a mac setup handy to check so can not provide any more detail.

Yes, avp2, thanks for the reminder. It's in the "Utilities" subfolder in "Applications." However, on my mac, the only versions I see are 1.6.0_22, in both 64-bit and 32-bit flavors. There are no other versions to choose from now, but there were previously (including 1.5.xx the last time I did this). This may be a consequence of the fact that I quite recently updated to Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6). It's a bit disappointing, because I recall now that Java 1.5.x also fixed the "popup menus fall off the bottom of the screen" problem as well.

    DS,

I'm sorry to hear that you can't move back to that compatible version of Java. I'm not up on all of the Snow Leopard update repercussions, but it does sound like you could be right . We have attached the bug ticket to this thread and will post here when we've released the fix.

I am in the same boat as ds4854, just upgraded to Snow Leopard, so I can't move back to a compatible Java version. I have seen several other instances of unusual behavior detailed in this post

I'll look forward to hearing when this is resolved.

    Hi Jake

Could you be a little more specific as to exactly the problem you are having. What type of mouse are you using and in what way is the scroll not working? I am fairly certain that the fix Jess referring to above resolved the issue. Perhaps you are experiencing some similar and unrelated to the particular problem that started this thread.

Did you purchase a license for MD2010 or did you get a free upgrade to it? If you purchased a license for MD2010 your key will also register MD2011. If that is the case please upgrade to MD2011 and let me know if the problem persists.

    Sincerely
